Species composition, seasonal abundance and distribution of avifauna in Lake Hawassa and part of the Eastern Wetland habitats, Southern Ethiopia

This study was carried out in Lake Hawassa, Tikur wuha riverine habitat and Cheleleka wetland from August 2017 to February 2018. The aims investigate species composition, seasonal abundance distribution of birds. Systematic random sampling techniques at an interval 3 km were used select blocks. T-test one way ANOVA applied for analysis the effect season on composition species. result showed a total 103 avian record belonging 47 families 14 orders during wet dry seasons. Of recorded, (71) bird (68.93%) residents, 29 Palaearctic migrants (28.16%) Intra-African (2.91 %). overall birds seasons not significantly different, but there significant difference within sites. There no Hawassa habitat. However, had wetland. Distributions variable areas. results imply need conserve avifauna whole sites through conservation their habitats. Key words: Wetland birds, abundance, endemic, migrant, resident.
